Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd was established in 1999 by the late Dr Ernest F Logan OBE. Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd specialise in the manufacturing of rapid diagnostics primarily for the detection of Leptospirosis in animals and humans. Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd play a crucial role in the surveillance and control of Leptospirosis within animals and humans locally, nationally and globally.
Leptospirosis is responsible for considerable economic losses in the farming industry as a consequence of abortions, still births, reduced fertility and reduced milk production. Infected animals generally exhibit no clinical signs of infection so regular screening is vital for disease detection, surveillance and control. Leptospirosis is an occupational zoonosis, posing a significant risk of infection to those working with infected animals.Diagnostics tests, designed and manufactured by Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd, are intended for the specific detection of the disease-causing serovar(s) associated with the target species. Tests include ELISA’s and rapid latex agglutination tests and each are available in various formats and sizes to cater for all requirements.
Linnodee Diagnostics are accredited to ISO9001:2015 and EN ISO13485:2016
Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd conforms to International Standards. Customers can be confident that Linnodee products are safe, reliable and of high quality. Working to ISO Standards has made a positive difference to our business operations in the development and manufacture of diagnostic tests and services. The accreditation aids Linnodee Diagnostics Ltd’s commitment to promoting animal and human health worldwide.
Leptospires of the serovar Hardjo are the major cause of Bovine Leptospirosis. These spiral bacteria travel quickly to the uterus, kidneys and udder where they set up localised sites of infection with devastating consequences to herd fertility and production including:
Abortions, Still births, Infertility, Agalactia and reduced milk production.
The infection can slip quietly into the herd through the introduction of carrier animals often exhibiting no clinical signs of infection. Transmission, principally by the shedding of infected urine poses a risk of infection to other animals and to those who work with cattle. Regular screening is vital to disease detection, surveillance and control. Linnodee has developed a rapid, highly sensitive monoclonal antibody capture ELISA, specific to serovar Hardjo-bovis and serovar Hardjo-prajitno which can quickly and safely detect infection and identify carrier animals.

Leptospira interrogans serovar Bratislava has emerged as a major pig maintained infection worldwide (Ellis, 1992) responsible for serious economic loss. Infections can result in:
Abortions
Stillbirths
Birth of weak piglets of reduced viability or infertility
Diagnosis of Leptospirosis in pigs is extremely difficult, and is usually based on serology using the microscopic agglutination test (MAT) which has a low sensitivity for detecting past or current infection (Ellis et al, 1986 a & b). Leptospires persist in the kidneys and genital tracts of carrier swine and are excreted in urine and genital fluids, enabling transmission to other animals and posing a major occupational risk to human health. Linnodee has developed a highly sensitive competitive ELISA which incorporates a monoclonal antibody specific to serovar Bratislava. Ideal for herd screening, the test can detect infected animals and carrier swine.

Leptospirosis is an infectious, zoonotic disease which can cause severe symptoms and death. The disease can present with a wide variety of clinical signs, often indistinguishable from other acute bacterial and viral infections. Leptospiral infections are usually derived from exposure to water, soil or vegetation contaminated with the urine of infected animals. In many parts of the world the disease is an environmental and an occupational hazard. Rapid diagnosis is essential to early response, treatment and control.
Leptorapide® is a simple, accurate, one-step test that detects the presence of Leptospira-specific antibodies in human sera in less than 5 minutes. The kit consists of an antigenic bead complex. On mixing with positive sera interlinking of the beads occurs, visible as agglutination. A positive/negative result can be determined using the agglutination scale below.
